What are the applications of PS packaging?

PS (polystyrene) is a thermoplastic and a member of the styrenic family. It has many applications in food packaging and for technical parts in industrial applications.

Strong and lightweight, it is perfectly suited to opaque packaging requirements (white, black, or in specific colours) and where a high resistance to impact is necessary.

We can provide this material with different formulations, depending on your specifications:

• Food applications (food inserts, frozen food inserts)

  • PS/EVOH/PE for a high air and water barrier requirement
  • XPS/EVOH/PE: expanded version
• Industrial applications of the recycled version (technical packaging, transit trays, inserts, display cases)

We use recycled PS for the manufacture of technical parts for sectors such as cosmetics or the automotive industry that do not necessitate contact with food.
 

What are the characteristics of PS packaging?

 

1. Appearance: smooth or expanded, shiny or matt
2. Colours: opaque (black, white or specific colours)
3. Perfectly suited to freezing with good resistance to impact, withstanding up to -40° C
4. Many possible treatments: conductor, antistatic, UV stabilisation, etc.
5. Lightweight due to its low density
6. Mechanical properties: suited to scoring/break lines
7. PS packaging is recyclable
