PLASTOBREIZ APPLIES ITS EXPERTISE TO ANIMAL WELFARE
Experts in the design and manufacture of bespoke thermoformed packaging solutions, PLASTOBREIZ (Auray, 56) helped NUTRI-FUTURE PROD (Loudéac, 22) with the development of the SOLUBIRD concept, which received an award on 10 September 2019 at the SPACE 2019 in Rennes.
The goal of this development was twofold: to design a universal 50 g pod that can be adapted to various transport cases on the one hand, and to store the gel solution for 18 months in its original packaging on the other. After several months of R&D, the high-barrier PP/EVOH/PP and recyclable packaging perfected by Plastobreiz was delivered in strips of 8 divisible pods to make filling and sealing easier. The birds were colour tested and the colour red was chosen for the plastic pod. Single pods were then inserted and glued by Nutri-Future Prod in a cardboard box with an adhesive strip and delivered ready for use, cutting down on the end user’s handling phases. The solution targets breeders and hatchers, who are then able to attach it to transport cases at a suitable height for young poultry. Other animal welfare packaging developments are currently being studied.

SOLUBIRD is a patented ready-to-use early nutrition solution in the shape of a hydrating nourishing gel, designed for the transportation of one-day old birds from the hatchery to the breeding farm. This solution helps stimulate the birds’ digestive systems and, by protecting their immunity, enables them to reach their full growth potential.
